Welcome to the Absolutely Volcanic Web Site
Photographer Dorian Weisel has spent the last 15 years specializing in documenting the eruptive activity of Kilauea Volcano on the island of Hawaii.

Beginning in 1985, with little more than a driving passion to be witness to Kilauea's dramatic displays of natures power, Dorian began a journey which lead to the amassing of more than 30,000 photographic images of Kilauea's eruptive activity. From fountains of lava reaching upwards to 2,000 feet into the air to rivers of molten rock cascading over the islands rugged cliff lined coast Dorian's archives include pictures of all aspects of this incredible phenomenon.

Dorian's work has been exhibited and published world wide, including many books, periodicals and in advertising. A selection of his work is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., as part of the "Inside Active Volcanoes" exhibit. Dorian has three Books about Kilauea in print.

All images are presented as 60x80 pixel, 8 bit gif thumbnails and larger (300x400 for horizontal and 234x300 for verticals) 24 bit JPEG's. Originals, in most cases, were taken on 35mm Kodachrome 64 film. The scans presented were made with a Polaroid SprintScan35 and prepared for the web in Photoshop.
